What is the food box program

The Food Box Program provides affordable access to fresh, locally grown produce through a weekly subscription. For just $10 per week, participants receive a curated box of seasonal items sourced from local farms—available for pickup or home delivery.

This program is supported by grants from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, with additional funding from Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York, Stewart’s Shops, Hudson Valley Credit Union, and Soul Fire Farm.

Priority is given to individuals and families with limited financial resources, though applications are open to all. After submitting an application, you will be notified of your status (accepted or waitlisted) by the following Monday.

If selected, participants receive a weekly order form to customize their box.

Food boxes are available on Sundays only. Pick up your box during market hours (10:15 AM–1:30 PM) at the Schenectady Greenmarket table, or choose home delivery.

How the Program Works:

Food Box Interest Form

The Food Box Program operates on a weekly basis. Sign-up links are sent to participants by email every Monday and must be completed by Friday.

Participants will receive a short survey each week to indicate whether they would like a food box that week.
In the survey, participants must also select their preferred option of pickup or delivery.
Participants are not required to purchase a food box every week.
However, participants must respond to the weekly email so program staff can accurately determine how many food boxes to order in advance.
Home delivery is only available to individuals residing in Schenectady County.

Your contribution helps us provide weekly boxes filled with produce from Schenectady Greenmarket farmers, ensuring that more households can enjoy nutritious, seasonal ingredients regardless of income. Every dollar goes toward expanding the program, reducing food insecurity, and strengthening our local food system. Thank you for helping us make fresh food accessible for all.
